ABOUT ME

I design architecture for animals. And the humans who share their world.

New facilities, upgrades, and master plans that give animals agency. I work with zoos, sanctuaries, rewilding parks, veterinary clinics, and private owners.

I’ll reply personally within 24 hours.

WHY THIS WORK MATTERS

Animals deserve better than beautiful enclosures

I chose to design only for animals after seeing habitats that looked impressive but compromised animal wellbeing.

I studied History of Art and Architecture, then spent years working with keepers and observing animals. That's where I learned what animals actually need.

Using neuroarchitecture and species-specific research, I shape environments through light, sound, movement, and space.

My principles

  • Inspiration: My work is shaped by local culture, stories, and traditions. I use these to design spaces that feel lived in, not abstract.

  • Innovation: I use a whole‑system approach built around real species behaviour and movement. Not just what the rules require.

  • Connection: I design through the senses to bring people closer to animals and to nature.

Why choose a specialist in animal architecture?

Most architects design for humans. I design for both.
Animals and the people who share their world.
What makes this different:

Built for the species
Every habitat is designed around what the animal actually needs.

Works for your team
Easy keeper routes, good sightlines, safety designed in.

Connects visitors to animals
People see and connect with the animals without stressing them out.

Backed by research
Every choice is based on animal behavior and science, not guesswork.

Thoughtful solutions
Years of focus means I know what works and what fails.

WHO YOU’RE WORKING WITH

I’m Nadia Riley.

Founder of Animal Space Design (formerly HAZKOBA) for over eight years,

I've specialized exclusively in animal architecture.

My background is in History of Art and Architecture, but my real expertise comes from years on-site. Observing animals, working with keepers, and collaborating with zoological consultants. This means every design decision is grounded in real animal behavior and operational reality, not just theory.

I've worked across Europe, the US, and private conservation sites. I've designed for gorillas, lions, tigers, polar bears, horses, and many other species. From master plans for rewilding parks to build-ready designs for zoos and veterinary clinics.

I take projects from early ideas through to construction, working with you, your keepers, zoological consultants, and builders to make sure the design works in real life.

When you work with me, you work with me directly.

Every conversation, decision, and site visit is personally led by me.
